Wiarton

Wiarton- The Basecamp to the Bruce Peninsula. The unique beauty of Wiarton is hard to find anywhere else and a photo really will not properly show the beauty of the bold limestone cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment overlooking the blue water of Colpoy's Bay. Wiarton is home to the famous albino groundhog, Wiarton Willie. Every spring Willie comes out of his burrow to predict the timing of spring. The Wiarton Willie Festival has many different events that span several days in early February

Just north of Wiarton on the escarpment overlooking the bay is the beautiful Spirit Rock Conservation Area. After a short winding drive through the woods you come to the historical ruins of the "Corran" the estate of Alexander McNeill a Federal member of parliament from 1881-1901. The site encompasses 87 hectares and offers many trails for hiking along the escarpment and many great views of Colpoy's Bay or taking the spiral staircase down to the waters edge.
